Our Plan for Devon, Why the May 2025 County Elections Matter

On 1st May, you have a clear choice: stability and proven leadership with your local Conservatives, or reckless coalitions, higher taxes, and failing services under the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

Across Exmouth and Exeter East, only the Conservatives have the track record and the plan to deliver real results for our communities.

This election is especially important because Devon is entering a new era with the Devolution Deal. More powers over transport, housing, and economic development will be transferred to local councils, and we need strong, experienced leadership to secure the best possible future for Devon.

Our Plan for Devon

✅ Prudent Financial Control
Under Liberal Democrat and coalition control from 1993 to 2009, Devon’s debt rose by over £500 million. Since 2009, Conservatives have taken on no new debt and repaid £148 million, securing Devon’s financial stability.

✅ Protecting Key Services
We have kept all 50 libraries open, the same number as in 2009, and many have been refurbished. Even when Labour slashed council funding, we protected the services local families rely on.

✅ Investing in Local Infrastructure
We have secured £16 million for roads, housing, and community projects, alongside £12 million invested in road repairs and winter gritting to keep our communities safe.

✅ Helping People Lead Healthy Lives
We are working with the NHS to support independence, prevention, and better care for vulnerable adults and families across Devon.

✅ Standing Up for Families and Children
We are committed to building strong Family Hubs to improve Children’s Services, offering early help for families, and ensuring that more children who come into care can stay here in Devon.

✅ Supporting Affordable Housing
We are working with district councils and Homes England to ensure local people have better access to affordable housing, and to secure national funding to deliver new homes.

✅ Growing the Devon Economy
We are investing in skills training for local people and businesses, ensuring that Devon’s economy thrives under the new Devolution Deal.

✅ Better Roads and Safer Streets
In 2023/24 alone, Conservative-run Devon repaired over 56,000 potholes, almost double the number repaired by Liberal Democrat-run Somerset. We are committed to keeping Devon moving safely.

The Risk of Splitting the Vote

Voting for Reform UK or staying at home risks splitting the Conservative vote and handing power to the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

The reality is, Reform UK cannot win here.

We have already seen the consequences elsewhere: under Liberal Democrat control, Somerset County Council declared bankruptcy, slashed vital services, and hiked council tax.
Devon cannot afford to go down the same path.

Only a Conservative-led council can provide responsible leadership, protect Devon’s future, and secure the best deal for our county.

Your Local Conservative Candidates:

  • Broadclyst (multi-member): Brian Bailey and Cynthia Thompson
  • Exmouth (multi-member): Jeff Trail and Richard Scott
  • Topsham and Wearside: Andrew Leadbetter
  • Whimple and Blackdown: Iain Chubb
  • Wonford and St Loyes: Anne Jobson
  • Pinhoe and Mincinglake: Ian Baldwin
  • Heavitree and Whipton Barton: Katherine New
  • Otter Valley: Paul Carter
  • Exmouth Littleham and Budleigh Salterton: Henry Riddell

On 1st May, vote for your local Conservatives for financial stability, better services, strong leadership, and the best deal for Devon.
