Following yesterday’s by-elections in Exmouth Halsdon, we want to extend our sincere thanks to every volunteer, supporter and campaign organiser who contributed their time and energy over the past few weeks.
Town Council Result (Exmouth Halsdon):
- Paula J Burtoft – Conservative: 392
- Louise C Doliczny – Independent: 155
- Suzanne M Isaacs – Liberal Democrats: 566 Elected
- Anthony Quinn – Reform UK: 421
District Council Result (Exmouth Halsdon):
- Paula J Burtoft – Conservative: 393
- Frances McElhone – Liberal Democrats: 551 Elected
- Anthony Quinn – Reform UK: 438
- Anthony S Woodward – Green Party: 153
When Paula was first encouraged to stand, expectations for the outcome were extremely modest. In her own words:
“I was told early on that the result was likely to be difficult, and that the numbers could be far lower than what we ultimately achieved. I’m incredibly proud of how strongly we performed, and that is entirely down to the commitment and hard work of our brilliant team.”
Thanks to the dedication of local members and volunteers, leafleters, canvassers and everyone who helped behind the scenes our campaign significantly outperformed early expectations. We want to give particular thanks to Association Chairman Cllr Ben Ingham, Former Cllr Lynne Elson, Election Agent Gillian Evans, and Campaign Manager Dylan Burtoft for their exceptional hard work throughout the campaign. The Conservative vote share in the District Council by-election fell by just 4%, a notably smaller drop than the national trend, and a reflection of the strength and quality of the local campaign we delivered together.
We also extend warm congratulations to Cllr Frances McElhone, newly elected to East Devon District Council, and Cllr Suzanne Isaacs, elected to Exmouth Town Council.
Finally, thank you to Paula Burtoft for stepping forward as our candidate and for representing the Conservative party with dedication and positivity throughout the campaign.
